Our Story

It all started with a tiny little fender bender.

Dayani and Mike met in a Calculus II night class at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA. Dayani always sat in front and paid close attention to the teacher. Mike always came in late (after driving an hour from work) and sat against the wall in the back. As finals approached, Mike was able to convince Dayani to try to help him pass the class. While that didn't work out so well, their relationship budded with Mike trying to burn Dayani's tastebuds off with spicy Indian food. (As it turns out, Cubans don't eat hot spices!)

One day, driving back from a rock show hosted by groomsman James, Dayani went to drop Mike off at the house. During the course of conversation, the topic of car accidents came up. "Hey Mike," she asked, "So when was the last time you got in an accident?" He replied, "Oh, it's been a long time. Except for around six months ago, when I backed up into a girl's car at the gas station near my house..." Dayani's eyes widened accusingly. Shocked and somewhat forlorn, Mike stammered, "That... that was you!? Oh, great. Now I have no chance!" Indeed, that had been her at that gas station.

Somehow, Dayani found it in her heart to forgive Mike, not only for the spicy food but also for the scratch in the paint on her new car. It must have been his mischievious, boyish good looks.

Over the course of the intervening five years between that first curry dinner and the days leading up to the biggest day of their lives, Dayani and Mike have been through a lot together. Those five years saw them both transfer to 4-year universities and then graduate (with honors), Dayani get her 2nd degree and begin medical school at UCSF, and Mike continue progressing in his career writing software at Yahoo. Somehow, between all the studying and working, they manage to fit in snowboarding and hiking, going on vacations to anywhere they can find a beach (according to Dayani, nothing compares to the Carribean; but it's worth trying), and trying to explore all the restaurants and ice cream parlors in San Francisco's Sunset district.

If not up to their usual shenanigans, when they are feeling lazy, you can find them watching CSI and Criminal Minds. When Mike isn't around (or has earplugs handy), you can find Dayani watching Desperate Housewives and Lost. When Dayani is busy studying, you can find Mike watching Futurama and the Daily Show or playing the drums in his band with groomsmen Jason & Nate.
